Science Unit Studies for Homeschoolers and Teachers: Ages 4-13 is a basic science curriculum that covers a wide range of topics. Ten of the twenty chapters are aimed at ages 4-7; the rest are for ages 8-13.
Topics include human anatomy (the senses, body systems, health), life science (dinosaurs, animals, insects, plants, ecology, microscopic creatures), and physical science (stars and planets, atoms and molecules, matter, chemistry, weather, force and motion, simple machines, light and color, magnetism).
Each unit provides a materials list and semi-scripted lessons (not word for word, more thought for thought as in "Ask your students if they have ever gone outside at night and tried to count the stars" or "Tell your students..." followed by information or instructions for an activity). The activities are fun and doable, covering a variety of learning modalities. For example, while studying seeds, you read a book about seeds, have your students curl up on the floor and pretend to be seeds, go on a seed scavenger hunt, dissect seeds, study edible seeds, and more. Much more!
The material is imaginatively written and designed for fun while learning. Illustrations are simple but well suited to the text. Units for 8-13 year old students include a multiple-choice quiz after each unit. Answer keys are provided for the quizzes and worksheets.
These explorations are perfect for young explorers, and well suited to co-op classes.
Note: Evolutionary content. However, this can be easily edited if you are not teaching from an evolutionary mindset, or can be a great springboard for discussion.
