Toughest Cowboy or How the Wild West Was Tamed, The

Printer Friendly Version

Publisher: Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers
Author: John Frank
Illustrator: Zachary Pullen

List Price: Hardcover: $17.95

Ages: 6-8 Years

Reviewed By: Jean Hall

How tough are the cowboys in this tale? They eat fried boots and lizard gizzards for supper, and that's just for starters. Then one day the roughest and toughest of them goes into town, and brings back a dog... but not just an ordinary dog. Somehow, this special, not-your-everyday cattle dog (hint: cute and fluffy) opens doors to new ventures, new ideas, new dreams -- with fun and the occasional pun along the way.

Colorful, lively pictures punctuate the tale, and the author and illustrator keep you chuckling all the way to the last pun, er, page.
